In the 2025 elections for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), hall unions, and student representatives to the university senate, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Combined Students’ Alliance achieved a sweeping victory, winning 20 out of 23 positions in the central student union.
On Friday (October 17), Chief Election Commissioner F. Nazrul Islam officially announced the results at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.
Mostakur Rahman Zahid was elected Vice President (VP), and S.M. Salman Sabbir became Assistant General Secretary (AGS). Other key winners from the alliance include Zayed Hasan Zoha as Cultural Secretary, Saiyeda Hafsa as Women’s Affairs Secretary, B.M. Nazmus Saki as Information and Research Secretary, and Mujahid Islam as Media and Publications Secretary—among many others, marking an overwhelming victory for the Shibir-backed panel.
Among non-alliance candidates, only two won positions: Narghis Khatun of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing) was elected Sports Secretary, while independent candidate Tofayel Ahmed won the Science and Technology Secretary post.
In the Senate student representative election, three out of five seats were also secured by Shibir-backed candidates — Mostakur Rahman Zahid, Fahim Reza, and S.M. Salman Sabbir. The remaining two seats went to Salahuddin Ammar and Aqil Bin Taleb.
Observers described the election results as a “display of dominant influence” by the Shibir-backed student alliance on the Rajshahi University campus.
