The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the filing of two separate cases against former minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and his wife Rehana Hossain for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
The approval was confirmed on Thursday (October 16) at a press briefing held at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, by ACC Director General Akhter Hossain. The cases will be filed at the ACC’s Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1, with Deputy Director Md. Saiduzzaman as the complainant.
According to the ACC’s findings, Saber Hossain Chowdhury allegedly accumulated over Tk 12.25 crore in assets inconsistent with his known sources of income between 1989 and 2025, and conducted suspicious transactions exceeding Tk 124 crore across 21 bank accounts. The case has been approved under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
Meanwhile, his wife Rehana Hossain has been accused of acquiring over Tk 26.97 crore in unexplained assets and conducting suspicious transactions exceeding Tk 150 crore across three bank accounts between 1999 and 2025.
The ACC confirmed that Saber Hossain Chowdhury has also been named as a co-accused in his wife’s case.
