Dhaka University (DU) has made a significant leap in global higher education rankings this year. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, the university has advanced 200 positions, now ranking within the 801–1000 band, compared to its previous position in the 1001–1200 range last year.
The data, published on Thursday on THE’s official website, shows that 3,118 universities worldwide have been included in this year’s rankings. Among Bangladeshi institutions, Dhaka University holds the highest joint position.
This advancement is attributed to notable improvements in several key performance indicators, including research quality, industry collaboration, teaching, and international outlook.
🔹 Research environment score: increased from 10.3 → 13.3
🔹 Research quality score: increased from 67.2 → 76.5
🔹 Industry collaboration score: increased from 21.4 → 33.2
🔹 International outlook score: 45 points
Under the overall guidance of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, a 16-member special committee led by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed has been working to elevate DU’s global standing. The committee has undertaken various initiatives to enhance research output, expand international collaborations, strengthen industry partnerships, and improve teaching quality.
Expressing his delight over the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan congratulated the university’s teachers, students, and staff, saying:
“Dhaka University continues to uphold its legacy and excellence both nationally and internationally. We remain committed to further enhancing the quality of education and research.”
It is worth noting that Dhaka University also retained its position as Bangladesh’s top university in the QS World University Rankings, published by UK-based education and research organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
