Photographer Shahidul Alam, who earlier said he would reach Gaza today (Sunday) but then warned of delays, has answered questions about his current location and how long it will take to arrive.
After 12:30 pm Bangladesh time, Shahidul Alam — managing director of DRIK — posted on his verified Facebook page addressing those questions.
On the first question he wrote that the best way to follow their route is by using trackers. He said the site “Forensic Architecture,” with whom they collaborated on an investigative film about the Abu Saeed killing, is tracking the routes of both the Conscience and Thousand Madelines flotillas.
In response to the second question he wrote that the answer depends on how the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reacts to them. Looking at past incidents, it seems likely they will not be allowed to proceed. They may be detained, then either sent back or sent to prison. Exactly when or where that might happen is impossible to predict in advance — it is not in their hands.
Noting that “your help is needed,” Shahidul Alam added that pressure on Israel from people is the best way to help them reach Gaza. He urged people to take action: “This is the moment for you to act. Be united, resist. This is a campaign for rights and justice. We must do this together.”
He also mentioned in the post that he had received a message of goodwill this morning from Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Interim Chief Adviser of Bangladesh.
