China attaches special importance to its relations with Bangladesh—Chinese President Xi Jinping made this remark in a congratulatory message sent to President Mohammed Shahabuddin on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-China diplomatic ties. The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka confirmed the matter in a press release on Saturday.
In his message, Xi Jinping stated that Bangladesh and China are traditional friendly neighbors with a long history of relations. Over the past 50 years, despite international and regional changes, the two countries have always maintained friendly ties based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Through mutual respect, equality, and cooperation, they have set an example of “win-win” collaboration in both regional and global arenas.
He further noted that in recent years, Bangladesh and China have strengthened mutual trust, expanded practical cooperation in various fields—including the Belt and Road Initiative—and deepened their strategic partnership. Xi expressed his eagerness to work together with President Shahabuddin to advance the traditional friendship, deepen development cooperation, and bring greater benefits to the peoples of both nations.
In his congratulatory reply, President Shahabuddin said that over the past five decades, Bangladesh-China relations have evolved into a deep friendship based on mutual respect and trust. He highlighted that the cooperation between the two nations has delivered tangible benefits to their people. Bangladesh gratefully acknowledges China’s contribution to regional peace and stability, he added.
President Shahabuddin expressed confidence that, through the joint efforts of the leaders and peoples of both countries, future Bangladesh-China cooperation will yield even greater achievements.
