Former Bangladesh national team captain Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn from the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election. On Tuesday (October 1) around 10:15 a.m., he went to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and officially withdrew his nomination papers. Along with Tamim, around 10–12 other candidates also withdrew their nominations.
The BCB election is scheduled for October 6. On the very last day for nomination withdrawals, Tamim unexpectedly pulled out of the race.
Other heavyweight candidates, including Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Syed Borhanul Islam, and Rafiqul Islam Babu, also stepped down from contesting director positions.
It has been learned that 15 clubs, all aligned with BNP-leaning councillors, have been barred by a court order. As a result, Tamim’s BNP-backed panel lost 15 assured votes. Moreover, four candidates from his 12-member panel were unable to contest, further weakening their position.
Speculation had already been circulating the previous day that Tamim and other BNP-backed candidates might withdraw. That speculation has now proven true.
