The interim government has decided to purchase 40,000 body cameras for police use in the upcoming national parliamentary election. The announcement came from Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the government’s Finance Adviser, after a meeting of the Procurement Advisory Council at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 23).
He said the cameras will be procured through the UNDP to ensure transparency and quality, similar to how vaccines are brought in through UNICEF. This approach will guarantee both standards and fair pricing, eliminating the need for government negotiations.
Dr. Ahmed further explained that the cameras will be purchased with government funds, with expenses covered from the election budget. However, the cameras will be handed over to the police, not the Election Commission.
“The interim government will provide all necessary support for the 13th National Parliamentary Election,” the adviser said. He also added that the central bank is currently purchasing dollars from private banks to keep the market stable and to address emergency challenges.
