The Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) election has been postponed by 21 days. According to the new schedule, the election will now be held on October 16. The decision was taken on Monday at an emergency meeting of the RAKSU Election Commission.
In a statement after the meeting, the commission said it had reviewed in detail the overall situation ahead of the student representative elections to RAKSU, hall unions, and the university senate that were scheduled for September 25. It observed that the prevailing situation on campus is not conducive to holding the polls.
The statement further noted that due to the ongoing “complete shutdown” program by teachers, officers, and employees, the required number of personnel to conduct the election could not be ensured.
In this context, to hold the election in a festive, participatory, and fair manner, the commission unanimously decided to shift the date from September 25 to Thursday, October 16.
