A massive cyberattack has crippled check-in and boarding systems at several major European airports, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights from London’s Heathrow, Belgium’s Brussels, and Germany’s Berlin airports.
Collins Aerospace, the system provider, and its parent company RTX confirmed that the disruption is limited to electronic check-in and baggage drop services, which are currently being handled manually. Notably, most European airlines rely on Collins Aerospace’s services, making the impact widespread.
Brussels Airport authorities reported that the disruption began on Friday night. So far, 10 flights have been canceled, with average delays of about one hour.
Delta Airlines stated it has activated alternative systems to minimize the impact, while EasyJet confirmed that its operations remain unaffected.
Meanwhile, Frankfurt and Zurich airports have not been affected, and Poland has also confirmed its airports remain secure.
UK Transport Minister Heidi Alexander said she is closely monitoring the situation. Across Europe, however, passengers are facing significant disruption and delays.
