The final results of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) election will be announced this Saturday evening. Chief Election Commissioner Professor Moniruzzaman informed reporters at noon that the official results will be published around 7:00 PM.
Voting for the election was held last Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The vote counting began at 10:30 PM the same day and continued for three consecutive days. Finally, the Election Commission has set today for the announcement of the results.
The election was surrounded by various dramatic developments. Four panels, including the Chhatra Dal, boycotted the election in advance. Additionally, citing the absence of a level playing field and other irregularities, one election commissioner and four BNP-affiliated teachers resigned.
A total of 11,897 voters were eligible to vote in the JAKSU election, including 6,115 male students and 5,728 female students. The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of approximately 67–68 percent.
