Professor Mafruihi Sattar, a faculty member of the Pharmacy Department at Jahangirnagar University, has resigned from his position as a member of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) Election Commission, citing allegations of irregularities.
On Friday (12 September) at around 8:45 p.m., he formally announced his resignation at a press conference held in front of the New Arts Building. Professor Sattar is also the president of the university’s Nationalist Teachers’ Forum.
Explaining his decision, he said that although he had continued to carry out his duties despite falling ill during the election process, widespread mismanagement and irregularities made it impossible for him to remain in the commission. He alleged that the lack of cooperation within the commission and its failure to address complaints had turned the entire electoral process into a controversial one.
He further stated that although he proposed at a commission meeting, called by the Chief Election Commissioner, to temporarily suspend vote counting in light of the allegations, the counting was nonetheless initiated. Under such circumstances, he concluded that it was no longer possible for him to continue his duties and therefore chose to resign.
