The long-awaited Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) and hall union election has concluded. On Thursday (September 11), after voting ended at 5 p.m., ballot boxes from different polling centers started being transported to the Election Commission office located at the Old Administrative Building. During this time, members of the law enforcement agencies were seen on high alert across the campus.
On-site observations showed heightened security at key points, including the Old Administrative Building, Murad Chattar, Bottola, Prantik Gate, Dairy Gate, and the Transport area. Alongside the police, members of APBn, BGB, RAB, and intelligence forces were also deployed under a four-tier security arrangement. Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police Arafatul Islam confirmed that voting was completed peacefully, with no untoward incidents reported. A total of 1,534 police personnel were deployed for the election.
For security purposes, several entry gates of the university remained closed on election day. Temporary closure orders were also issued for floating shops, campus-adjacent markets, and roadside stalls. However, residential hall canteens were kept open with instructions to maintain sufficient food stock. Additionally, restrictions on motorcycle movement across the campus were enforced from the evening of September 10 to noon on September 12.
In this JAKSU election, 178 candidates contested for 25 posts. Among them, nine candidates vied for the Vice President (VP) post, nine for General Secretary (GS), six for Joint General Secretary (female), and ten for Joint General Secretary (male).
The final results will be announced from the Election Commission office after ballot counting is completed.
