Police have confirmed the identity of the youth in a red T-shirt seen brutally beating Ganadhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur in front of the Jatiya Party headquarters in Kakrail, Dhaka.
The assailant has been identified as Constable Mizan, who serves as the driver of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam confirmed the matter on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday night (August 29) during a clash between Jatiya Party and Ganadhikar Parishad activists. Video footage circulating on social media showed a man in a red T-shirt indiscriminately beating Nur with a stick. The attacker later identified himself as a police officer.
Earlier, police had stated they were investigating his identity, with officials initially uncertain if he was actually a member of the force. It has now been confirmed he is indeed Constable Mizan.
Authorities are also investigating the circumstances under which he was released after the attack.
