Donald Trump’s much-debated tariff policy, which shook the global economy, has suffered a major blow in court. The US Federal Appeals Court has ruled that most of the tariffs imposed by Trump were unlawful.
The court stated that Trump had misused the International Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). It clarified that only Congress—not the President—has the authority to impose tariffs. The ruling will remain on hold until October 14, after which the case will be heard in the Supreme Court.
Out of 11 federal judges, 7 struck down Trump’s tariff strategy. According to the court, the excessive tariffs could create new legal disputes and trigger economic instability.
The former President reacted angrily, claiming the ruling, if implemented, would “destroy the US economy” and leave the country economically weakened. He further vowed to challenge the verdict, declaring, “We will fight back, and the court knows that America will win in the end.”
