The 12th of Rabiul Awwal in the Hijri calendar holds deep significance for Muslims worldwide. On this day, the birth and demise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took place. In Bangladesh, the day is observed as a public holiday under the name Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.
This year, the government has rescheduled the holiday. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, the holiday will now be observed on September 6 (Saturday) instead of September 5. The change comes as the month of Rabiul Awwal began on August 26 this year.
On the day, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain closed. However, essential services—such as electricity, water, gas, fire service, hospitals, medicine and medical supply transport, telephone and internet services, postal and port operations—will remain operational.
