Dhaka, Sunday (August 24): The moon of the holy month of Rabiul Awal, 1447 Hijri, was not sighted in the sky of Bangladesh today (August 24). As a result, the holy month of Safar will complete 30 days tomorrow (August 25), and the counting of Rabiul Awal will begin from August 26. Accordingly, the holy Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) will be observed on Saturday, September 6.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at Baitul Mokarram Auditorium, chaired by A.K.M. Aftab Hossain Pramanik, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This information was shared in a statement signed by Shaila Sharmin, Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Islamic Foundation.
The committee reviewed reports received from district administrations, the headquarters of the Islamic Foundation, divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization. It was confirmed that the moon of Rabiul Awal was not sighted in Bangladesh on 29 Safar 1447 Hijri (August 24, 2025).
Additionally, a draft guideline on moon sighting was presented, and a 10-member committee was formed. Present at the meeting were the Director General of the Islamic Foundation, Chief Information Officer of the Information Department, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Chairman of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization, Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, principals of various madrasas, and representatives from the Board of Governors of the Islamic Foundation.
