Several fake social media accounts impersonating Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman have been identified, spreading misleading information, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) revealed in a press release on Wednesday night. The ISPR clarified that the Army Chief has no personal Facebook or other social media accounts and has no plans to operate any in the future.
The military urged the public and media not to be misled by false information circulated through these fraudulent accounts. Authorities are actively working to identify those involved and take legal action against them. The ISPR warned that such deceptive activities could threaten national security and assured that steps are being taken to shut down these accounts promptly.
The ISPR has already contacted relevant authorities to deactivate the fake profiles. With a rise in impersonation cases recently, the Army emphasized its zero-tolerance stance against misinformation campaigns targeting high-ranking officials. Strict measures are underway to prevent further exploitation of the Army Chief’s identity for malicious purposes.
