The testimony phase has begun in three corruption cases involving the East End land plot allotment scandal against Sheikh Rehana, sister of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter and British MP Tulip Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, and son Radwan Mujib Siddiq (Bobby). The proceedings started Wednesday at Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-4.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Tarikul Islam confirmed to Prothom Alo that while the accused reside abroad, legal proceedings are continuing. On July 31, charges were framed in six separate cases involving Hasina, her family members, and 23 others regarding the East End plot allotment irregularities. Testimony in three cases against Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and Saima Wazed Putul began on August 11.
The ACC filed these cases in 2022 over alleged irregularities in the East End housing project. Though Tulip Siddiq currently serves as a UK Parliament member and former City Minister, trial proceedings continue against her in Bangladeshi courts. Court sources indicate testimony will continue over coming weeks as per the scheduled hearings.
