FBCCI, the Apex trade organization of the country has urged the retailers and wholesale traders, manufacturers, importers, and market committees to keep the essential commodity market stable during Ramadan. FBCCI made this call during a discussion meeting with the retailers and wholesale traders, manufacturers, and importers of essential commodities held on Thursday at the FBCCI office.
FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin said, “Price hike in the global market always pushes the local market. To keep the market stable government has already taken some steps. Consumers and traders should also come forward to keep the commodity price stable.’
FBCCI President called upon retailers and wholesale traders, manufacturers, importers, and market committees to stabilize the prices of all types of daily commodities including oil, sugar etc. during Ramadan.
There are some responsibilities for both the consumers and Businessmen to keep the market stable. Panic buying creates pressure on the market. At the same time businessmen should also refrain from making excessive profits, he added.
FBCCI President Said that besides the government, businessmen and Chambers, associations, and Market committees also have some responsibilities to stabilize the market. Everyone needs to work together to keep the market stable, he opined.
Prices of commodities are reduced ahead of the festival all over the world. But it’s different in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi businessmen should also reduce the price of their products during the festivals, he added.
FBCCI president warned everyone about buying and selling products at an unreasonable price, and if the market committee shows indifference in this regard, the government will cancel the license of the committee.
Md. Jashim Uddin called upon the market committees to be proactive so that no trader can collect unreasonable prices of products from consumers.
He said, “We don’t want the consumer rights protection department to harass the traders by carrying out raids. The government has regulations regarding the purchase and sale of goods and stock. The market committees should take initiative to make ordinary traders aware of these issues.” If there is a disruption in the supply of any product, let us know, and we will help, he opined.
FBCCI will not take responsibility for any dishonest traders, Md. Jashim Uddin added.
FBCCI senior vice president Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu said, “In the current global scenario, commodity prices have increased. This price should not increase again during Ramadan. We have checked the market and found that there is sufficient stock of sugar, edible oil, and other daily commodities. There is also a considerable product in the pipeline. So, The chaos that happened in the market before Eid last year, should not be repeated this time.”
FBCCI Vice President M.A. Momen, Amin Helaly, Director M.G.R. Nasir Majumder, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Mohammed Bazlur Rahman, Hafez Harun, Abu Hossain Bhuiyan (Ranu), Akkash Mahmud, and others were present at the discussion meeting.
