USTC helds training on combating fake news

University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), funded by KAICIID (The King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue), has organized a training program with the collaboration of Initiatives For Bangladesh to enhance the capacity of university students in Social Media and Diversity Literacy to increase the religious and social harmony in Bangladesh.

The program was held at the USTC main campus on Saturday (November 12).

The training aims to build a safe and violence-free social media or cyberspace by combating fake news and misinformation, enhancing the young generation’s knowledge of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance, and inspiring them to work on peacebuilding and conflict management.

25 youths joined this day-long training program where they learned about Digital Citizenship, Digital Footprint, Social Media, and Diversity Literacy. After the training, they have committed to their society and made an individual action plan to increase tolerance and a peaceful society.

The training program began with an inaugural speech from Prof. Dr Nurul Absar, the Pro VC, and Dr Mohammad Sahabuddin, Chief Adviser of the Student Welfare Advisory Committee of USTC.

Besides, Mr Sandy Francis Peris, Lecturer at USTC, and Sanat Kumar Barua, Secretary-General of Atisha Dipankar Peace Trust Bangladesh, joined this training program.
