  • A Supreme Court lawyer has sent a legal notice to actress Parimoni, demanding an unconditional apology in writing for the incident that took place on November 5 in the court premises. The notice has requested her to apologize within seven days and refrain from such behavior in the future.

Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahriar sent the notice to Parimoni and the president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association. He said that the notice was sent to the addresses of the three people by registered post on Sunday morning.

Request to the artist association to take action as well

The legal notice requests Parimoni to completely refrain from any activities that have no artistic or educational value, including obscene language or dialogue, threats, obscene acts, gestures, and dances.

On the other hand, the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association have been asked to take necessary disciplinary action against Parimoni by issuing a show cause notice (SHOKJ) within seven days of receiving the notice. Otherwise, the notice giver said that necessary legal action will be taken as per the prevailing law.

    Allegations of clashes with journalists

The legal notice said that Parimoni surrendered in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and was granted bail by the court. At around 11:40 am that day, while getting out of the car and heading towards the court, security guards and journalists clashed while trying to take pictures and videos of her.

According to the notice, Parimani snatched the cellphone of Samakal multimedia reporter Rabiul Hossain. The tripod used to record his video was broken by the security guards accompanying Parimani.

The notice states that Jago News reporter Ashiquzzaman and multimedia reporter Abdullah Al Kausar, Agamir Sahib reporter Siam Hossain and Times Today’s Shah Riaz were injured in the incident. In addition, a trial seeker named Sujan Chandra Moni Das was also injured. The notice claims that various media outlets have reported that his head was bleeding from a ruptured wound.

The notice also states that it is the responsibility of the state and the administration to ensure the safety of everyone in the court premises. No one has the right to control the court environment or show off their muscle power by using private security personnel.

Allegations of death threats against journalist

The legal notice further alleges that while leaving the court, Parimani rushed towards Samakal multimedia reporter Rabiul Hossain, abusing him in obscene language and threatening to kill him in public.

The notice states that Rabiul Hossain’s right hand is congenitally shorter than his left hand and lacks three fingers. Due to this, he cannot perform normal activities with that hand.

The notice states that the video of the incident has been circulated in the media. The notice-givers also commented that such behavior towards a professional journalist is an insult to his professional dignity and a threat to the environment in which independent journalism and the media can perform their duties.

However, these allegations have been raised in the legal notice. If the statement of Parimoni or the Bangladesh Film Artists Association is available on this matter, it can be added to the report.
