Gold prices in the domestic market have risen once again. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has increased the price by Tk 1,691 per *bhori*. Consequently, the price of one *bhori* of 22-carat hallmarked gold has risen to Tk 2,34,621.
The new rates were determined on Saturday morning (September 19) during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring. The new prices came into effect at 10:00 AM on the same day.
BAJUS stated that the new gold prices were set after considering the overall market situation and the rise in the price of pure gold (*tejabi* gold).
According to the new rates, the price for one *bhori* of 22-carat gold is Tk 2,34,621. The price for 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 2,24,065; 18-carat gold at Tk 1,92,397; and traditional method gold at Tk 1,57,172.
BAJUS had previously adjusted gold prices on September 12. At that time, the price of 22-carat gold was raised by Tk 1,050 to Tk 2,32,930. The rates then were Tk 2,22,490 for 21-carat, Tk 1,91,056 for 18-carat, and Tk 1,56,064 for traditional method gold.
A BAJUS notification stated that making charges would apply based on the jewelry design. However, since VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewelry, it cannot be collected separately from the customer.
For the exchange of old jewelry, 12 percent must be deducted (excluding making charges and the cost of stones), and for the purchase of old jewelry, 18 percent must be deducted. There is no provision to deduct VAT separately in cases of exchange or purchase. The new selling prices set by BAJUS will remain effective at all jewelry establishments across the country until further notice.
