  • The court has ordered the attachment of immovable property and the freezing of movable property belonging to former President Md. Sahabuddin on specific charges of acquiring wealth disproportionate to his known source of income.

The Dhaka Senior Special Judge and Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court issued the order on Thursday after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC sources said that the investigation has found preliminary evidence of a large amount of illegal assets in the name of the former president in various districts of the country. In addition to the order to attach known non-income assets worth about 18.7 million taka that emerged during the preliminary investigation, the ACC has also issued instructions to block transactions in bank accounts in his name.

The immovable property seized by the court order includes 18 plots in the name of Sahabuddin in different parts of the country. In addition, a total of Tk 37,000 in two bank accounts under his control has been ordered to be frozen.

It is worth noting that earlier, former President Md. Shahabuddin was accused in a corruption case related to the looting of crores of taka from Islami Bank. As part of the investigation, this legal action has been taken against his movable and immovable properties.
