BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been named as the party’s prime minister.
The BNP chairman came up with the decision at a meeting of the BNP standing committee at the prime minister’s secretariat office on Thursday afternoon. Later, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the matter to reporters.
Rizvi said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has resigned from the post of BNP secretary general and a member of the National Standing Committee.
The meeting was greeted by the party’s standing committee members and senior leaders. The decision to nominate him for the post of President was officially announced at the meeting.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it has been given the responsibility of prime minister and party chairman Tarique Rahman to decide on the vacancy of the secretary general. He will make a decision with the party leaders.
Senior joint secretary general, joint secretary general, chief whip and whip of the Jatiya Sangsad were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, party chairman and prime minister Tarique Rahman also attended a lunch with senior leaders, including members of the standing committee.
