Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian government has been invited to attend the bilateral visit and the upcoming BRICS summit.
He said this at a weekly briefing of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on Tuesday (August 11th).
Randhir Jaiswal said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was formally invited to visit India immediately after the new government took over. He has also been invited to attend the ‘Outreach Session’ of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September as the current president of the regional alliance BIMSTEC.
The Indian spokesperson termed the recent meeting of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka as positive and promising. He said the meeting discussed in detail the bilateral relations between the two countries and various issues of mutual interest.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in India on 12th and 13th September. According to the conventional process of BRICS, the heads of various regional alliances are invited to the outreach session of the conference.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as the current chairman of BIMSTEC. A diplomatic letter in this regard was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh through the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on July 14.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said that the two countries have the potential to further strengthen the recent diplomatic contacts of the two countries as well as high-level bilateral visits and regional cooperation in the future.
