Aminul Islam, chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, said the current prime minister Tarique Rahman was tortured in a room of the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) during the one-and-a-half-hour period.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the JIC at the DGFI headquarters on Saturday (August 8th) afternoon.
The chief prosecutor said Tarique Rahman was taken to a JIC room during the one-and-a-half hours and tortured. He said the information was obtained from the statements of various witnesses in the investigation.
He said the JIC, known as ‘Aynaghar’, used to capture people and tortured people at different times. A visit to the spot revealed the situation.
Aminul Islam alleged that many evidences and important evidence of the JIC cell have been destroyed since August 5th. However, the current condition of the spot, the observation of the remaining evidence and evidence is important in ensuring justice.
He added that if a citizen commits a crime, he must be brought to justice. However, it is necessary to ensure that no one is harassed unnecessarily through extrajudicial killings or law enforcement agencies.
According to the chief prosecutor, the JIC visited the International Crimes Tribunal as part of the investigation and trial. One of the objectives of the visit was to get an idea of the current situation of the scene and the possible evidence of the situation there.
