The government is re-establishing the lottery system for admission of students in the first class. However, the admission test will be taken from the second class of primary and secondary schools to the next class.
The decision was taken in a notification signed by Abdullah Shibli Sadiq, senior information officer of the education ministry, on Thursday (August 6th).
According to the notification, no admission test will be held in the first class from the 2027 academic year. Students will be selected through lottery. On the other hand, students will be admitted on the basis of admission test in all the remaining classes of primary and secondary schools.
Earlier, at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education on March 16th, the Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced that the admission test will be taken in all classes from the 2027 academic year. However, in the latest decision, it has been decided to change that position and maintain the lottery system in the first-class case.
In 2011, the lottery system was introduced instead of the admission test for the first time in the first class of government secondary schools. The same system was implemented in private schools in 2012. Later, during the COVID-19 pandemic, admission in all classes began with lottery from the 2021 academic year, which was effective so far. From the 2022 academic year, the lottery and other classes admission test in the first class are being introduced again.
