The district administration has imposed Section 144 in the municipal area to avoid possible clashes over the clashing programs of BNP and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in Habiganj. District Magistrate Dr. G. M. Sarfaraz issued the order on Wednesday (July 29).
According to the order, until further notice, gatherings of five or more people, public meetings, processions, processions, miking, sloganeering, picketing and all other activities that may disrupt law and order will be prohibited in the Habiganj municipal area.
The district administration order said that NCP has announced a protest rally and road meeting program in Habiganj on Wednesday. At the same time and at the same place, Habiganj Sadar Upazila BNP, Municipal BNP and District Chhatra Dal have announced counter-protest rally and sit-in program. Section 144 has been imposed in the public interest due to the possibility of a large number of leaders and workers from both sides being present. There is a fear of clashes, loss of life and property and deterioration of the law and order situation.
Meanwhile, the NCP has called for nationwide protests on Wednesday to protest the attack on its march in Habiganj on Tuesday.
A statement sent by the NCP office cell claimed that BNP leaders and activists attacked the convoy of party chief organizer Sarjis Alam and chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari on their way back from the march. It is alleged that Sarjis Alam, Nasiruddin Patwari, several journalists and party leaders and activists were injured in the incident.
The notification has directed all metropolitan, district, upazila and police station branches of the NCP to organize protests and demonstration rallies in their respective areas.
On the other hand, the report did not mention the official response from the BNP to the attack.
