Barishal Accelerates Expansion of “Bangla QR”, Opening a New Horizon Towards a Cashless Economy

  • Tuesday, 28 July To further strengthen Bangladesh’s digital transformation and bring secure, convenient, and modern banking services to the doorsteps of the public, a meeting and rally titled “Expansion of Bangla QR and Cashless Barishal” was held in Barishal on Tuesday. The programme was organised by Pubali Bank PLC, Barishal Region.
    The event took place at Ashwini Kumar Town Hall in Barishal. The Chief Guest was Md. Mofizur Rahman Khan Chowdhury, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, Barishal. The Guest of Honour was Md. Ebaidul Haque Chan, President of the Barishal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.The programme was chaired by Md. Idrisur Rahman, Branch Manager and Deputy General Manager of Pubali Bank PLC, Barishal Branch. Special Guests included Md. Hafizur Rahman, Director of Bangladesh Bank, Barishal; Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank, Barishal; and Muhammad Mosahidullah, Regional Head and General Manager of Pubali Bank PLC, Barishal Region. Representing the Bangla QR Implementation Unit of Bangladesh Bank, Barishal, Md. Tanim Hossain, Joint Director, and Khandaker Atikur Rahman, Assistant Director, were also present. In addition, branch managers, bank officials, businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders attended the event.During the programme, the speakers stated that Bangla QR would play a significant role in promoting a cashless and digital payment ecosystem across the country. Through this technology, merchants and entrepreneurs can easily accept digital payments, reducing the risks associated with carrying cash while making transactions faster, safer, and more efficient. They also noted that digital payment records would simplify bookkeeping, thereby enhancing transparency and efficiency in business operations.The speakers further explained that transactions can be made through Bangla QR using Pubali Bank’s PI App without any additional charges. They also highlighted that the simple process for opening a Micro Merchant Account would enable small entrepreneurs to join the digital payment ecosystem. As a result, businesses of all sizes—from small enterprises to large organisations—would benefit, contributing to greater economic activity.In his speech, the Chief Guest emphasised that the successful expansion of Bangla QR and the promotion of cashless transactions require the collective efforts of banks, merchants, and customers. He remarked that initiatives like this play a vital role in delivering technology-driven banking services to the public.
    Following the meeting, a colourful rally was organised to support the implementation of the “Cashless Barishal” initiative. The rally aimed to raise public awareness about the benefits of using Bangla QR, the security of digital transactions, and the importance of building a cashless economy.The speakers expressed optimism that the widespread adoption of Bangla QR and the expansion of cashless transactions would soon transform Barishal into a modern, smart, and digitally empowered economic city.
