Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
State minister for foreign affairs Shama Obaid Islam briefed reporters at the foreign ministry on Thursday. He said the invitation letter sent by India has reached the Ministry of External Affairs and it has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
India is the host of the 18th BRICS Summit. Although Bangladesh is not a member of BRICS, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited as a special guest.
Currently, BRICS member states are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are partners in the alliance.
No official decision has yet been made on whether Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the summit.
