The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started the work of preparing inventory (list of resources) as per the court’s directives at the eight-storey house known as the ‘Jalsirdi’ of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC).
On Monday (July 20th), ACC deputy director Md. A team led by Hafizul Islam conducted the raid on the house. ACC deputy director Md. Aktarul Islam confirmed that the work is underway to prepare the list of assets as part of the implementation of the court order. Detailed information will be provided at the end of the operation.
Earlier on 27 January, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court appointed Ziaul Ahsan and various deputy commissioners and public works departments as ‘Resiver’ (supperector) for the supervision and maintenance of the crocodile (crement) immovable property in the name of those of his interest. Money laundering and assets abroad.
The ACC investigation revealed that Ziaul Ahsan took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017. He and his family paid two million US dollars in favour of two Malaysian institutions for citizenship. The country also has been accused of investing $13 million in five-year bonds.
According to the ACC, he has smuggled a huge amount of money abroad. Two banks in Dubai have been found to have a total of Rs 95 crore, a Malaysian bank worth Rs 75 crore and a U.S. bank in the United States.
The background of the investigation
On December 18, the ACC formed a three-member search team against Ziaul Ahsan on charges of abuse of power, acquiring illegal assets and money laundering.
On August 19, 2024, Bangladesh Bank suspended all bank accounts of him, his wife, children and all the bank accounts of their own companies.
Career
Ziaul Ahsan, who was commissioned in the Bangladesh Army in 1991, held important responsibilities in RAB, NSI and NTMC. He has been in charge of the RAB since he was in charge. He later served as the director of NSI and the first Director General of NTMC in 2022.
