Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been buried in the Imam Reza shrine in the holy city of Mashhad, in accordance with his last wishes. The burial, which took place 131 days after his death, marked the end of a chapter in his long political and religious leadership.
A huge mourning procession and funeral were held in Mashhad before the burial. Millions of people dressed in black and red took to the streets to pay their last respects to their beloved leader. The funeral was postponed to the afternoon after the coffin car slowed down due to the large crowd.
The report claims that the 86-year-old Khamenei and his family were killed in a joint US-Israeli attack on February 28. The same report also says that the incident has strengthened the spirit of national unity and resistance in Iran. Before the burial, a state funeral was held in Tehran. Then the funeral procession was taken to Najaf and Karbala in Iraq via the city of Qom, where tributes were paid at the Imam Ali Shrine and Imam Hussein Shrine. Later, the body was brought back to Mashhad for the final burial.
The report noted that after the burial, the Iranian people and state leadership reaffirmed their commitment to following the late leader’s ideals and protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.
