Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed all concerned agencies to take necessary steps to protect the environment of Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara Lake in the capital, control water pollution and ensure integrated waste management.
He came up with the directive at a high-level meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (July 6th). The meeting focused on implementing short-, medium and long-term plans to stop the flow of water, prevent water pollution and maintain the environmental balance.
The instructions given at the meeting
Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said that some important decisions and directives were made at the meeting.
The sewing connection system of buildings in the Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara-Niketan area is verified.
The construction of the building where the waste is going directly to the lake will be closed.
Integrated efforts to control the water pollution of the lake and protect the environment.
The concerned ministries, city corporations and responsible agencies are directed to work in coordination.

The meeting focused on setting up a sewerage treatment plant (STP) to protect the environment of Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara Lake.
