Iran wants to create a new reality by establishing its control over the Strait of Hormuz. However, the international community and regional countries will not accept the authority of any single state over this waterway, says military and maritime analyst Alexandru Houdistanu.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said that Iran is trying to establish itself as the main custodian or controller of the Strait of Hormuz. But most countries in the world are interested in ending the ongoing conflict and restoring the normal flow of international trade.
According to him, the recent tensions in the Middle East have led to an increase in international oil prices and uncertainty in global trade. In this situation, the countries concerned want to move towards a long-term stable solution by implementing existing agreements.
Hudistanu said that not only Middle Eastern countries, but the entire world is interested in continuing free navigation and commercial transport in the Strait of Hormuz. However, it is not possible to say for sure how the situation will change after the current conflict ends.
Analysts say that Iran’s attempt to establish control over the Strait of Hormuz is part of a long-term strategy. If Tehran can claim that it controlled the security and commercial traffic of this vital waterway after the conflict, it could use this as a key argument to strengthen its permanent influence and legal position in the waterway in the future.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transport routes. Huge quantities of crude oil and natural gas are transported to international markets through this waterway every day.
