Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said those who are criticizing the budget for the welfare of the people as anti-people can never be true friends of the people. He said the main objective of the current budget is to improve the quality of life of the people of the country and ensure economic security.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the family card at Victoria High School ground in Srimangal, Moulvibazar on Wednesday (June 17th).
The Prime Minister said the government has prepared a budget through which efforts have been made to reduce the cost of living of the common people and ensure economic relief. He said that the tariffs on essential commodities have been lifted in the budget. But the opposition is trying to mislead the people by calling the budget anti-people.
He added that some people are questioning where the money from the family card and the farmer card program will come from. In response, the Prime Minister said that people’s money will no longer be allowed to be smuggled. The resources of the state will be spent for the welfare of the people and there will be no crisis of money to carry out development activities.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister announced a number of important social security programmes. She said all the tea garden workers of the country will be brought under the family card within a year. Besides, farmer cards and family cards will be distributed among 40 lakh households across the country.
Regarding the development of the health sector, the prime minister said the upazila-level 50-bed hospitals will be upgraded to 100-bed hospitals within the next five years. The necessary funds have been allocated so that the rural people can get better health care in their respective areas.
Referring to the BNP’s political philosophy, Tarique Rahman said BNP’s politics is the politics of standing by the people and taking the country forward. The main goal of the government is to change the fate of the people.
He added that the government has taken a tough stance against those involved in money laundering in the past. From now on, strict legal action will be taken to prevent money laundering and those responsible will be brought to justice.
