The government has signed a $404 million loan and grant agreement with the World Bank for the development of Bangladesh’s health, nutrition and population sectors.
The Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance said this in a notification on Wednesday (June 10th).
According to the agreement, the World Bank will provide a loan of 284.70 million SDR, which is equivalent to about $379 million. A $25 million will also be donated from the Global Financing Facility (GFF). As a result, the total amount of funding has been $404 million.
Two important projects will be implemented under this fund. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will implement the first project ‘Health and Nutrition Services Improvement and System Strengthening Project’. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of healthcare and nutrition, increase the capacity of the health sector and improve the efficiency of providing services.
The second project will be implemented by the Family Planning Department. The project will take initiative to expand climate-resilient reproductive health and population services, improve the quality of services and ensure the efficiency and equality of health management.
The government said the project will strengthen the overall health system of the two countries. This financing will play an important role in improving the quality of health and nutrition services of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and increasing the availability of healthcare for the common people.
