The government has taken a big initiative to ensure creativity, cultural practices and overall development of students in primary education. From now on, the primary school curriculum includes music, drama, dance, and arts and crafts.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said this at a view-exchange meeting held at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Wednesday (June 10th).
According to the ministry sources, a new textbook titled ‘Art and Culture’ will be launched for the fourth grade students from 2027. The book will include arts and crafts, music, dances and dramas in separate chapters. Since 2028, there are plans to add subjects to primary education under the new curriculum.
The state minister said the aim of the present government is not only to make the students a textbook-based knowledge, but also creative, skilled and global citizens. Art, culture and sports-based education will play an important role in this regard.
He added that the new initiative will require a large number of specialized teachers and instructors in primary schools. According to the initial plan of the government, about 50 to 60 thousand new employment opportunities may be created in the related sectors of music, dance, drama and fine arts in the next five years.
He said discussions were underway with the universities in this regard. The government is also working on adding teaching-related training or special modules to the university curriculum to prepare the students studying in the relevant subject for the teaching profession.
Experts concerned with education believe that this initiative will further strengthen the creative development of students, the opportunity to emerge and strengthen cultural practices. At the same time, it will add a new dimension to the primary education system and enrich future generations with multidimensional skills.
