Abdul Hannan Mollah, the child’s father, has expressed satisfaction over the death sentence handed down to Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun, the main accused in the notorious case of raping and murdering eight-year-old Ramisa Akhter in Pallabi, Mirpur, in the capital. He also demanded the speedy implementation of the verdict.
The verdict was announced by Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal on Sunday. Ramisa’s father spoke to reporters at the court premises after the verdict was announced.
He said, “We have received the expected verdict. I am 100% satisfied with the court’s verdict. Our only demand now is that this verdict be implemented quickly.”
Abdul Hannan Molla said, “I will never get my daughter back. However, this court verdict has given us some relief. We got a speedy trial because everyone involved in the judicial process worked with sincerity.”
He expressed gratitude to the judiciary, law enforcement, media personnel, and fellow countrymen who have been by his side since the incident.
Ramisa’s father added, “I would like to express my gratitude to those who stood by my family during this difficult time. I want this verdict to be implemented quickly and so that no child has to suffer such a cruel incident in the future.”
In this case that has stirred up a stir across the country, the court sentenced the main accused Sohel Rana and the other accused Swapna Khatun to death along with a fine. Although the verdict marks the end of an important chapter in the judicial proceedings of the case, the victim’s family is now waiting for the verdict to be implemented quickly.
