The verdict in the case filed in connection with the rape and brutal murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka, will be announced on June 7th. On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Children’s Violence Prevention Tribunal judge Masroor Salekin fixed the date for the verdict after presenting the arguments of the state and the accused.
The trial of the case has been completed quickly. On June 1st, the charges against Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter were ordered to begin the trial. The next day, the testimony of sixteen of the eight witnesses in the chargesheet ended. The accused claimed their innocence in their defence, but the state demanded maximum punishment.
Earlier on May 24, when the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet, the court took it into account and the case was sent to the tribunal. According to the case, when the child left the house on the morning of May 19th, he was taken to a room and his headless body was recovered. Soon after the incident, police conducted a drive and arrested one of the accused from the spot and the other was arrested from Narayanganj. On May 20, the victim’s father Abdul Hannan Mollah filed a case with Pallabi police station.
There is now a lot of public hope for the verdict of the case.
