The number of children with measles and measles worldwide is increasing at an alarming rate. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported the death of eleven more children in the last 24 hours. More than a thousand children have been hospitalized at the same time.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, one thousand 261 suspected measles patients have been identified in the last one day. From March 15 to May 22 this year, the total number of suspected patients stood at 60 thousand 540 people.
Eight thousand 329 cases of measles were confirmed during this period. Fifty-four cases have been reported in the last twenty-four hours.
According to the health department, 47 thousand 511 people have been hospitalized with measles symptoms in the last two months. Forty-three thousand patients have returned home after treatment.
The most worrying thing is the death toll. Nine children have died of measles in the last twenty-four hours. Two more people have died of measles. Eleven children lost their lives in one day.
The total death toll from suspected measles has risen to 414 since March 15. Eighty-five people have died of measles.
Public health experts say the situation could get worse if children’s vaccinations are not strengthened. They advised parents to take their children under the vaccine as well as to take them to the hospital immediately if they show symptoms such as fever, rash or shortness of breath.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), surveillance and medical activities have been stepped up across the country to deal with the situation. Efforts are being made to ensure separate medical facilities and emergency assistance for children.
