Parveen Sultana, Gazipur District Correspondent: The Deputy Commissioner of the district council held a press conference in the wake of various media reports related to FDR of Rs 62 crore in Gazipur District Council. Barrister Chowdhury Ishraque Ahmed Siddiqui.
Speaking at a press conference at his office on Thursday (May 7th) afternoon, he said the Gazipur district council will follow a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against any irregularities, corruption or financial inconsistencies and all necessary measures will be taken to uncover the truth.
After assuming office, the district council has taken several effective steps to speed up administrative discipline, financial transparency and development activities. At present, the financial capacity of the district council is stronger than ever before. He said that in the past, where the amount of FDR was about Rs.55 crore, it has now been increased to Rs 115 crore in a systematic process.
“FDR in the name of any organization cannot be broken alone,” the administrator said. All activities have been carried out following the complete banking rules, administrative approvals and government rules.”
He added that if there are any legal or administrative inconsistencies in this regard, it will be investigated in an impartially and if necessary, a full investigation will be conducted through a government audit.
At the press conference, he alleged that a vested circle that has been set up in the district council for a long time is dissatisfied with administrative reforms and transfers and trying to tarnish the image of the institution by spreading misleading information. However, he said, the development and service activities will continue in the public interest without being misled by these propaganda.
Meanwhile, there are discussions in various quarters that there have been visible changes in the administrative activities in recent times under the leadership of Md Nazrul Islam, the chief executive officer of the district council. After assuming office, he took steps to provide ID cards to officers and employees, restore discipline in office management, adding new registers, initiatives to recover unhappiness, increase revenue collection, payment of dues and ensuring transparency in project management. He also praised the locals for creatively reorganizing a broken structure on the premises of the district council that was damaged in the July movement and setting up a map of Gazipur and Bangladesh there.
The administrator, Dr. Barrister Ishraque Ahmed Siddiqui said, “We are working to make Gazipur Zilla Parishad a modern, people-friendly and accountable institution. No propaganda or conspiracy of the smult will stop this trend of development.”
Various officials, employees and media personnel of the district council were present at the press conference.
