The court also ordered the start of the trial in the embezzlement case of embezzlement of money two decades ago against Tofail Ahmed.
Dhaka divisional special judge Begum Shamima Afroz on Thursday ordered the formation of the charge sheet in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The other two accused in the case are Mohammad Anwarul Islam and Mosharraf Hossain. Mosharraf Hossain was present in the court on bail. An arrest warrant has been issued against Tofail Ahmed and Anwarul Islam.
ACC prosecutor Ishtiaq Ahmed said the court has fixed the date for the trial on June 22nd for the hearing of the case.
The court also appealed to the court regarding the physical and mental state of Tofail Ahmed. In his petition, his lawyer Khair Uddin Sikder mentioned that he has been undergoing treatment at Square Hospital for a long time and is physically and mentally unable to participate in court proceedings due to his loss of memory.
The ACC prosecutor said the court had directed to follow the legal process in this regard.
According to the lawsuit, money was transferred and withdrawn through associates to hide Rs 1 crore-25 lakh illegally acquired by abusing power in 2002. According to the complaint, the money was transferred from the Motijheel corporate branch of Sonali Bank at different times.
At the end of the investigation, three charge sheets were filed against them. However, the case was later adjourned by the High Court. After the recent political change, the trial proceedings of the case resumed.
Tofail Ahmed, known as one of the organizers of the 1970s mass uprising and the liberation war, has long been physically ill. According to family members, he has been walking in a wheelchair since the stroke and part of his body is partially paralyzed.
