Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) amidst torrential rain as part of his visit to Sylhet. This is his first visit to Sylhet after assuming office.
He entered the shrine premises at around 10:30 am on Saturday (May 2) and after visiting, prayed for the welfare of the country and the nation.
Earlier, a flight carrying the Prime Minister landed at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport around 10 am. There, she was welcomed by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Labor and Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Qayyum Chowdhury and senior administration officials.
After the shrine visit, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Sylhet City Corporation’s waterlogging relief and beautification project in the Chandnighat area of the city. Later, she joined a public meeting organized by the City Corporation.
According to the schedule, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the re-excavation of the Basia River in Kandigaon, Sadar Upazila, in the afternoon. She is also scheduled to inaugurate a sports program at the Sylhet District Stadium and attend a party meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy in the afternoon.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Dhaka in the evening after the day-long program.
