Measles are on the rise across the country. Three children have died of the disease in the last 24 hours, while two other children have died of symptoms. This has raised new concerns about the public health situation.
According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services, the deaths occurred between Thursday morning and Friday morning. Among the dead were two in the Barisal division and one in the Dhaka division. Two more children have also died in Dhaka.
At the same time, hundreds of thousands of new cases of suspected measles have been identified across the country. In the laboratory, 127 people have been tested and the infection of measles has been confirmed.
According to health department statistics, a total of 3 thousand 192 people have been confirmed in the country from March 15 to April 17 in more than a month. The number of suspected cases stood at 21 thousand 467. Eleven thousand 243 people have returned home after treatment.
The most worrying thing is the death toll. Thirty-seven people died of measles in the same period. Seventy-four others died of the disease.
Public health experts say the situation is getting complicated due to shortage of vaccination programs, lack of awareness and lack of timely treatment. They stressed the need for speedy incudating and monitoring of the spread of the virus.
