The resurgence of infectious disease measles in the country has become a new big challenge for the public health system. According to the latest government data, a total of 198 children have died of measles and symptoms in the last one month, which clearly highlights the depth and risk level of the situation.
According to the report published by the Directorate General of Health Services (), 32 children died of measles in the period from March 15 to April 15. In addition, more than 166 children have died of measles symptoms, in which the final test could not confirm the disease.
At the same time, 12 thousand 398 children have been admitted to different hospitals in the country with measles and its symptoms. Two thousand 973 people have been diagnosed with measles. According to experts, these statistics are only a reflection of the registered and reported events; the risk of the real number being more and more cannot be ruled out.
According to the analysis of the report, the capital-centric has emerged as the most affected region. Ninety-four children died in a month and the number of cases exceeded ten thousand. Rajshahi division is at the second highest risk, where 4 thousand 556 children have been infected and 67 have died. On the other hand, the rate of relatively few cases has been seen in the Rangpur division, where 644 children have been infected, but no deaths have been reported at this time.
The last twenty-four hours have been alarming. During this time, 76 new children have been infected and three have died, one of which has been confirmed with measles.
Public health experts have warned that measles is a highly contagious virus-causing disease that can spread quickly—especially among children suffering from vaccinated or malnutrition. The current situation indicates that it is necessary to strengthen the vaccination program, improve rapid detection system and implement the infection control strategy at the hospital level more effectively.
According to experts, if preventive measures are not taken in time, the infection can take a wider scale, which will put long-term pressure on the country’s child health system.
