Despite efforts to bring the spread of measles under control in the country, the infection and death rates are creating new concerns. In the last one day, the death of seven children in measles and its symptoms has been revealed in the official statistics.
According to the health directorate’s update, two of the dead have been confirmed with measles, while five have died with symptoms. At the same time, 729 children were hospitalized with symptoms of measles and 82 people were diagnosed with the infection.
More than a month has shown that 30 children have died of measles in the country since March 15th. In addition, the number of symptomatic deaths has reached 156—which raises new questions about the actual spread of the infection.
A significant number of children have been admitted to the hospital, which is putting pressure on the health system. However, the authorities said that a large number of children have recovered through treatment.
Dhaka division has the highest number of infections and deaths in the region-wise figure, followed by Rajshahi and Chittagong divisions.
Public health experts say it is now most important to expand vaccination activities to control infection and quickly detect vulnerable children.
