On the occasion of Bangla New Year, the authorities have taken special measures to move the metro rail keeping in mind the massive crowd in the capital. On this day, of will be closed till 12pm, while Dhaka University Metro Station will be kept out of passenger service throughout the day.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Deputy Project Director (Public Relations) Md. Ahsan Ullah Sharifi confirmed this information. He said the decision was taken due to overcrowding and security in the concerned areas focusing on the New Year celebrations.
Like every year, there is a possibility of huge crowds in this part of the capital due to the New Year celebrations from the Fine Arts Institute and cultural events at Ramna Bottom. As a result, it has been decided to keep the metro station partially and full off to ensure safe movement of passengers.
The authorities have expressed regret to the passengers for the temporary inconvenience. At the same time, passengers have been advised to prepare in advance for the use of alternative transport.
According to analysts, such decisions, prioritizing public safety, are considered an important part of urban management during large crowds.
