A high-level Iranian delegation is leaving for Islamabad on Thursday (April 9) night to advance possible peace talks with the United States, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam confirmed in a message on social media.
He said that despite the growing suspicion among the Iranian public over repeated ceasefire violations by Israel amid the ongoing tensions, Tehran is keen to continue diplomatic initiatives. The dialogue is being held on the basis of a 10-point framework proposed at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Pakistan took on the role of mediator after the conflict with the US and Israel over Iran began on February 28. In mid-March, the US sent a 15-point proposal to Tehran through Islamabad. When Iran rejected it, a revised proposal was sent again in early April.
The revised proposal calls for a two-phase plan—a 45-day ceasefire in the first phase and a negotiated settlement within that period. However, Iran countered by calling for a 14-day ceasefire and presenting its own 10-point demands to the United States.
According to analysts, the dialogue is being seen as an important diplomatic opportunity to restore stability in the Middle East amid rising military tensions, although its success is still uncertain.
