To deal with the pressure on energy supply, the government has reduced the working hours of government and private offices across the country by one hour. According to the new decision, office hours will be from 9 am to 4 pm starting Sunday.
The Ministry of Public Administration confirmed the matter in a notification issued on Saturday . It said the revised schedule will remain in effect until further notice.
According to the government’s explanation, the decision was taken to reduce pressure on electricity consumption in the context of volatility in global energy markets. As a result, office working hours have been reduced by one hour compared to the previous one.
The activities of banks and financial institutions have also been adjusted in line with the new schedule. Bangladesh Bank has issued instructions in this regard . Although the office hours of banks are from 9 am to 4 pm, customer transactions will continue from 10 am to 3 pm.
However, emergency services will remain outside this schedule and will operate as usual. Weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday) have been kept unchanged.
According to policymakers, this temporary adjustment could help reduce pressure on energy management, although the schedule may be reconsidered in the future, considering the situation.
