Several units have been set on fire after a drone attack on Mina al-Ahmadi, one of Kuwait’s main oil refineries, state media reported. The incident has raised new security concerns in the wake of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
On Friday (April 3rd), the Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) said the attack took place in the morning at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. A firefighting team was deployed at the spot when the fire broke out in different parts of the refinery.
Authorities said the fire was brought under control and an investigation has been launched to determine the extent of the damage. No immediate information was released.
On the same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had shot down a U.S. F-35 fighter jet. Iranian state media reported that the plane was hit when it entered the country’s airspace.
According to Iran, the plane was completely destroyed and there was no information about the location of the pilot. However, no independent investigation has been made so far.
According to analysts, the attack targeting energy infrastructure could further complicate the regional conflict and have an impact on the global energy supply system.
